Fluid-solid systems play an important role in a variety of industries, from pharmaceuticals and consumer goods to chemical plants and energy production. With the development of these areas, there has been a variety of equipment and applications, the most prominent being fluidized and jetted beds, granulators and mixers, pneumatic conveying, drying, condensation, coating and combustion. The most promising approach for modeling flow in these systems is the CFD-DEM approach, which couples computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of fluid phases with discrete element methods (DEM) of particles. By reviewing the progress of particle fluid flow modeling, the background, basic methods and application cases of CFD-DEM, the latest application of the simulation of particle separation and classification device, fluidized bed method formation and energy conversion, crushing device, filtration and bioreactor, focusing on the application case of CFD-DEM method in pneumatic transport, The future trends and development prospects of CFD-DEM coupling methods were determined and discussed.
